Can It Get Any Better? Peter Gammons interviews Alex Rodriguez

rodriguez

As if Alex Rodriguez taking steroids and earning the classic nickname “A-Roid” wasn’t enough, he took the time to sit down and talk with baseball writer Peter Gammons in Miami. The entire interview can be seen on numerous sites across the web but the bare necessities are all you need.

“When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I felt like I had all the weight of the world on top of me and I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day. Back then, [baseball] was a different culture. It was very loose. I was young. I was stupid. I was naive. And I wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time. I did take a banned substance. And for that, I am very sorry and deeply regretful.”

I don’t know if I find this whole story as hilarious and glorious as most Yankee-haters, but I must admit that listening to his voice crack and watching him bleed his brain for the correct answers is priceless. What in the hell kind of pressure do you have with $250 million? My only pressure would be where to spend it and who to invest with. Other than that, just keep playing like you did in Seattle. After all, that’s what got you the world’s largest contract in the first place.

I may not have necessarily liked Rodriguez or the person he was (he always seemed like a tool to me) but I was comfortable with the realization that he would break the homerun record the HONEST way.

But with the adoption of the nickname, the admittance, the whole report blow-up, that’s all over now. Hank Aarron will always be the homerun champion in my book and I never even got to see the man play. Then again, watching someone like Ken Griffey Jr. break the record wouldn’t be so bad. But if Griffey was able to break it, would we refer back to the list of the 104 tests and find his name somewhere in there?

Rihanna Was The “Unidentified” Female In Brutal Altercation

rihanna

After it was reported that Chris Brown was involved in beating up on an “unidentified” female, I was really hoping that it wasn’t his girlfriend, pop-star Rihanna. But then again, we all knew it was. Who else would Chris Brown be driving with on Grammy night, in which both entertainers were performing?

Of course reports are mixed and not necessarily credible at this point, but it is still amusing to read nonetheless. The report states that the altercation began in Brown’s Lamborghini around 12:30 am Sunday morning. For those you are unfamiliar with automobiles, the Lambo has a really small extremely tiny cabin. To paint a mental image, picture two people fighting in a linen closet.

And then we have the typical “sources” who run their mouth and claim that they know it all. One source speaking about Rihanna said, “She’s got a temper, and she can get right in your face.”

Another source claimed, “Chris Brown has beaten up Rihanna and disappeared. She was sent to the hospital because it was so bad.” Some even described Rihanna’s injuries as either a broken nose or broken jaw. Ouch!

At this point, none of us have any idea about what REALLY happened between the two young stars. With that said, we really have to wait and hear from them specifically before we go and point the finger. However, I will say that if what we hear now is true…Chris Brown has committed career suicide.

Not A 1-On-1 Showdown, But Kobe Leaves Cleveland With A Win

kobe-v-lebron

The hype. The everlasting comparison between two of the game’s greatest players. The office arguments of which guy is better and who you would take on your team. It was all settled on Sunday afternoon. Or was it?

Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers traveled to Cleveland to take on LeBron James and the Cavaliers. The result, in my opinion, was a surprise as the Lakers handed the Cavs their first home loss all season. I can’t say that I thought Kobe and LeBron would go head-to-head, but I thought they would both perform better than they did.

Kobe finished with 19 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. LeBron had a horrible day shooting as he went 5-20 from the field, finishing the game with 16 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds.

The Lakers finished a tough road-trip that included both the Cavs and the Celtics, both games of which they won. Are the Lakers still the real deal without Bynum?

I’ll stick with the Cavs to win it all. I’ll stick with LeBron as the best player in the game. And I’ll gladly listen to the insults and bashings.

Unlikely No-Shows, Chris Brown and Rihanna miss the Grammy Awards

chris-brown-1

Chris Brown and and his girlfriend, Rihanna, were both nominated and scheduled to perform at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night, however neither showed up.

Los Angeles police have reported that Chris Brown, the popular R & B singer, turned himself into police after a woman accused him of felony battery Sunday night. According to reports, Brown was riding in a vehicle with an unidentified female Sunday night when they began to argue. The argument then escalated and carried on outside of the vehicle.

Police have said that the woman identified Chris Brown as her attacker. But who is she?

We are unsure if the female mentioned is Brown’s girlfriend, Rihanna. If it is in fact NOT Rihanna, what other female would be driving with Chris Brown on Grammy night?

What is that on Kanye’s head?

kanye-west-at-51st-grammys

Thoroughly entertained by the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, I couldn’t help but notice the haircut (perhaps hair-do) of hip-hop star Kanye West.

Although Kanye has kind of gone off the deep end as of late (mostly due to the loss of his mother and his break-up from his fiance), I have continued to support his music. I cannot say the same for his current style.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that had a comment to say about Kanye’s hair upon first look. To me it was like a hi-top fade in the shape of a mullet.

Quite the unique trend?

Stay tuned for better images from the 51st Annual Grammy Awards
